“Keep quiet and do your job!”
Many people who have worked for companies may have gained knowledge or insight over the years that they couldn’t share with anyone.
Company Secrets
After leaving a company, however, it’s natural to want to reflect on the experience, and perhaps some workers will even feel compelled to share some of the insider information.
We took to social media to find out former employees’ most shocking company secrets. Here’s what they had to say.
Payouts From Health Insurance Don’t Come Easy
Former employees admitted that getting payouts from health insurance companies can be difficult when filing a claim.
As it turns out, these companies often deny claims in the hope that individuals will not take further action.

However, those who do escalate their case and involve their doctor may eventually receive the insurance they paid for.
It is important to remember that it is worth fighting for if you believe you are entitled to something.
Be Careful Not To Reveal Too Much When Applying for a Mortgage
When applying for a mortgage, it is important to be transparent and honest, but some former employees have warned not to reveal too much.
People should only answer the specific question asked and avoid providing extra information that could potentially work against them, for example, saying they were unemployed for a certain time.
They Sold Defective Products at The Store, Hoping They Would Try To Return it To a Different Store
A former employee of an electronics store from the early nineties revealed that when people would return items that didn’t work, the store manager would box them up and sell them again as if they were new.
The manager’s plan was for customers to return the defective product to a different store branch. However, this former employee refused to go along with it and told a customer that the walkie-talkie radio he was purchasing didn’t work.

The customer was grateful for the honesty and got his product from another store, while the manager was furious with the employee and almost fired him. Eventually, it came to light that this same manager had been stealing from the store and was fired instead.
They Used Pirated Software
“Used to work at a graphic design firm. All our Adobe software was pirated,” one person said.
Surveillance at a Casino Can See Everything
Surveillance personnel working at casinos could zoom in on money on-the-table games and be able to read the serial numbers of bills from a 3-story-high ceiling. They were even capable of seeing the pips on dice.
The policy, however, was to not look down on women’s blouses. This allowed surveillance teams to effectively monitor gameplay and solve problems.
Refugee Advocacy Agency Engaging in Sexual Relationships With The Women They Were Supposed to Be Protecting
The whistleblowing of a group of employees at a government-funded refugee advocacy agency revealed that consultants were engaging in sexual relationships with young women (aged 18-25) while denying them opportunities for employment.
Because the women couldn’t make ends meet, the consultants made the offer of “private prostitution.”
When this was brought to light, the senior board took immediate action, and the consultants were let go. However, two of the worst offenders were allowed to resign rather than be fired and had since gone on to work with vulnerable young women at other agencies.

According to the social media user, a whistleblower, all the complainants left the job within three months. “…and within three months, me and the other six other complainants and investigators had ALL resigned from the company for different reasons,” they said. “On paper, it looks coincidental, in reality, we were all individually pushed out.”
“You should at least give an anonymous tip to the FBI,” one person responded, as they considered it human trafficking.
Call Center Letting Everyone Know They Are Experiencing a Large Number of Calls
At an inbound call center, customers who are trying to reach the company may hear a message informing them that they are experiencing an unusually high number of calls.
Unfortunately, this message was permanent as the company had not adequately staffed its call center to meet customer needs.
The Operator Can Hear You While on Hold
One person said that if you don’t hear music when on hold, the operator may have muted your microphone. This means that any conversations, comments, or other words spoken while on hold may be heard by the operator.
To avoid potentially embarrassing situations, it is best to remain silent and wait for the call to proceed as normal.
“I’ve heard interesting and damning things while they thought I couldn’t hear them,” the former employee admitted.
Olive Garden Breadsticks
“Olive Garden breadsticks are just Franz brand breadsticks, garlic salt, and margarine,” one person revealed.
“Yeah, but I’m not buying Franz sticks when Olive Garden will give me an unlimited amount that is already prepared,” the most upvoted response said.
While we don’t know if this is true or not, you can test the validity of this claim at home, folks!
Insurance Companies Have Access to Your SSN
“Worked in insurance, hundreds of people have access to your SSN with no security clearance or background check,” one person said.
Can See What Your Typing Before You Click Send
One person revealed that when they were working in customer service, they had access to Live Chat conversations and could view what people were typing before clicking ‘send.’
This meant that they were able to read the range of emotions from customers, as well as any inappropriate statements, lies, or mistruths.

They said watching how people reworked their responses was interesting before sending them.
I watched people work through grotesque, racist, sexist statements, fraudulent lies, and mistruths, meticulous grammar fixes,” the person admitted.
They Overcharged But Said Nothing
A former employee of a major cable/ISP revealed that when the company upgraded its billing system, it made an error that resulted in overcharging customers for late fees.
Unfortunately, the company’s policy was not to fix the issue immediately but only credit customers’ accounts if they called in about it.
They Overcharged But Said Nothing
This person estimated the total amount wrongfully charged to the city to be over a million dollars, as most customers didn’t pay close attention to their bills. As a result, many customers were charged money that they weren’t supposed to owe.
Dumping Waste Coolant Into The Scioto River, Ohio
At one individual’s workplace in Ohio, the vehicle modification shop was seen to be dumping waste coolant directly into a storm drain that led to the Scioto River. According to the social media user, the chemical disposal tank was only a 55-gallon drum which was “much too small.”
The user explained that this waste was produced from the machine’s coolant reservoirs when they were emptied and replaced, approximately once a year.

Each machine held 15-20 gallons, and it was observed that it was being carelessly dumped into local water sources instead of properly disposing of this hazardous material.
Despite attempts to bring this issue to light by some of the staff, no action was taken to resolve it as it was always done as a spur-of-the-moment decision.
