DadaABC Application Process 2021 – Get Hired

Follow this guide to not only pass the DadaABC application process, but receive the best pay possible. We outline all the information you need to know to get hired by DadaABC in 2020.

Who is DaDaABC?

DaDaABC is a Chinese online teaching company for children aged 4 to 16. The company provides all the lesson materials. Teachers have regular (formal) students and trial students.

Formal student classes are one-on-one 25-minute classes. You will have these students on a set day and time each week.

The trial classes are with students who have not yet signed up to the company and want to try a lesson.

Unfortunately, we’ve just received word that Dada classes are coming to a close.
There is no point signing up at this time.

DadaABC Requirements

DaDaABC requires teachers to have a bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate. They need teachers who speak with a neutral English accent.

Teachers also need a strong, stable internet connection, headset and laptop. Dada teachers must wear a sky blue t-shirt.

How Can I Get Hired by DadaABC?

To get hired by DadaABC, sign up and complete the training to get started in as little as one week.

Although I had many trial classes in the beginning, I had a full schedule of regular students within 2 weeks. Complete the application process, pass the mock interview, and do some training.

Set up your profile and you will receive students who want to have a class with you.

Application Process

Dada has a clear, easy-to-follow application process to streamline the hiring process. Here is the application process procedure.

Submit your application to the DadaABC website

Submit your details, resume, and a picture of yourself. Make your resume relevant by outlining your teaching experience.

You could also include babysitting experience or times you’ve worked with young learners. The picture shouldn’t scare you either – you will have to upload a picture for your students to see anyway. They do not discriminate; the main focus is on your resume and experience.

Job Interview with a Teacher

You will need to have an interview with a teacher on Skype where they ask you questions like:

  • Do you have a bachelors degree?
  • What ESL experience do you have?
  • What ages have you taught?
  • Are you available to teach at least 4 hours, 2 days per week?
  • What are your salary expectations?
  • When will you be available to start?

You will also have to do a demo class for a few minutes and the teacher will pretend to be the student. I found the mock class easier than other mock classes I’ve had with other teaching companies.

Show enthusiasm, have a few props (cut-outs of animals and a teddy bear, for example), and have fun. They don’t worry too much about timing at DaDaABC, you can teach at your own pace. I’ve heard that some teachers have also had a student, rather than an employee at Dada, for their demo class.

If you have any questions about the interview process, contact us or write in the comments section below.

Tips for a Good Interview

Adequate lighting

Go to a quiet room with a laptop and headset ready. You can set up a plain background or a background with posters, and the Dada logo is even better!

Smile

Show your face on the webcam. The interviewer is kind, patient, and wants you to feel comfortable.

Use props

The students love accessories. Make use of teddy bears, flashcards, or wall posters. Try to use at least two props.

Use TPR

Use TPR in class, also known as a Total Physical Response. Use hand gestures and facial expressions to get your point across to the students.

Secondary Rewards System

This can be used to provide students with even more rewards than the stars on the platform. Awarding students for good behavior will encourage them to develop good habits.

While you might award them by using the stars on the platform, you could also provide more exciting rewards. Teachers often use stickers, ice-cream stacks, or a fishbowl as a secondary reward system.

Some teachers use lots of props and prizes when teaching, but I like to keep a more minimalistic approach using digital accessories on Manycam. Choose a style that works for you.

Wait 2-3 days for Approval

I have every faith in you that you will pass the interview process and get an email of approval! I even recommend DaDaABC to teachers who are starting out teaching online. They are friendly and will help you set up.

Submit Documents and Complete Training

You can now submit your bachelor’s degree, teaching certificate and background check.

If you don’t have your bachelor’s degree yet, your final year results will do just fine. You will also need a background check that is no more than 3 years old (also known as DBS Check or Garda Vetting).

You can apply for this check online, I applied for mine for free and received my results within a day. This will vary from country to country.

Start Teaching!

Yay, congrats! This is when the fun begins. They may check up on your teaching and see how you get on during your probationary period but you should be fine.

How Much Do You Get Paid with DadaABC?

You can earn up to $23 per hour with Dada in 2020. Here is a breakdown of how much teachers can expect to earn.

I HIGHLY recommend setting up a free TransferWise account if you are not from the US, to accept USD. They offer mid-market exchange rates and small fees, saving you a ton of money than going through the banks.

DadaABC Pay Scale

Dada pays a $15 base rate per hour, depending on your performance at the interview and mock demo. In 2020, trial and formal classes are paid at the same rate. Additionally, they incorporated a new bonus system on top of your base pay.

Dada Bonus Structure in 2020

Here is the 2020 bonus pay structure for Dada:

""

As you may have noted, you will receive a bonus up to $7 for the classes you teach in a month. For example, for your 20th class, you will receive your base rate + $3. For your 50th class that month you will receive your base rate + $5. Not a bad overtime rate!

You can earn a $7 trial class conversion bonus and receive a subsidy if your student doesn’t attend class. You also have a stability factor, based on the number of students who attend regular classes with you.

The more regular students you have, the higher your stability factor, and the more you will get paid in the hour.

The biggest impact on your salary is the step bonus rate, so the more classes you can teach each month, the more pay you can receive per hour.

Dada Maximum Hours

Dada requires teachers to work at least 4 hours per week, two days per week. They have classes 5.30pm-9pm BJT each evening. You can work in 2-hour blocks throughout Saturday and Sunday 10:00-12:06 & 14:00-16:06 & 18:00-21:10 BJT.

If you want to take time off, you have to apply at least 24 hours in advance. You can set formal time slots and extra time slots. Your formal time slots are fixed classes that you have with regular students. Your extra time slots can be added and canceled weekly.

What I like to do is book my formal classes each week 6pm-9pm Monday to Friday. I may add extra time slots some weekends, so that I get a few weekend hours every so often.

DadaABC Contract

The contract is quite strict and you should read it before setting your schedule. You can take off 2 days per month at most, so make sure you can set a schedule that you think will work for you.

Of course, if you need more time, you can email them and they will try to accommodate your needs. When you’re up for a contract renewal, you’ll get your vacation! Free leave, with no fine, just tell HR the time off you’d like (within reason) and send off your contract, you’ll be fine!

""

You can also add extra time slots each week so that you work overtime. These time slots can be cancelled and added as needed. However, you can’t cancel a time slot if a student has already signed up for one.

If you miss your classes, you will receive a financial penalty. I only received a penalty once or twice for not showing up for a class. This happened because I forgot about some extra time slots I set up, so be careful. Your extra time slots carry forward to the next week and may be booked by a student. Always make sure to cancel them if you cannot attend.

There are times that technical difficulties may cause you to miss, or be late for, a class. You can take a photo as proof when something like this happens. Explain your situation via email to ensure you do not receive a penalty.

Dada Online Reviews

There are pros and cons working with DadaABC. Here is what myself and other teachers have to say:

Pros:

  • Work from home opportunity
  • Regular students which allow you to develop close relationships and see their progress
  • Bonus structure, high paying teaching company
  • Helpful IT should a technical issue arise
  • Teach at your own pace
  • Lesson Materials Provided

The upsides of Dada is that you can be creative with the lesson material. I have often whipped out my phone in class to show the kids something like Snapchat or Google Maps. I also play games with them like tic-tac-toe.

The students like some variety in the classes to try to keep it interesting with games and rewards. The lesson material requires very little preparation. The student homework can be written in a few minutes.

Another positive thing about Dada is that it is one of the higher paying companies in the industry. The greatest thing about Dada is the students themselves. You WILL develop close relationships with your students.

This is what compels me to stay at Dada and work with the children. I always thought working with kids would be too difficult, but I was completely wrong. It is a very rewarding experience.

Cons:

  • Lesson materials can be boring at times
  • Financial penalties if you miss a class.

Penalties are one of the things you may worry about. However, in 2020, some of these penalties have been lifted. If you are more than two minutes late to class, financial penalties apply.

You have to give DadaABC at least 24 hours’ notice if you can’t make it to class. Otherwise, you must provide evidence, such as a doctor’s note.

I recommend downloading the Dada app and checking what classes you have each day, just to be sure you don’t miss any classes.

In my experience, you will receive roughly a one-dollar penalty if you are more than two minutes late for class. Penalties for absence are approximately 120 RMB in my experience. These rates may vary depending on your base pay and you can check your contract for further details.

If you have a good attendance record, penalties can be removed by sending them an email. Try to provide photo/video evidence of the problem that caused you to miss the class.

Ways to avoid penalties:

  • Give at least 24 hours notice if you can’t make it to class.
  • Provide photo evidence if you have technical difficulties that prevent you from entering the class
  • Check your DadaABC app often to see what classes you have that day.
  • Send them an email as they may lift penalties if your attendance is generally good
