Hallo English is an online education company with more than a million language learners from around the world. In this Hallo review, we will discuss the following:

Hallo Overview

Hallo is an educational online marketplace based in Utah. Hallo is an innovative way for ESL teachers to make money online. Hallo provides teachers with the opportunity to gain popularity on the platform and thus earn more money.

At Hallo, native and native-like teachers speak with students worldwide, with students typically between the ages of 18 to 30.

  • Native and native-like speakers of English
  • Access to a computer with a microphone and webcam
  • An ESL certificate, such as a TEFL, a TESOL or CELTA
  • Schedule at least two live classes per week to be able to accept subscribers
  • At least two 50-minute classes or private lessons per month

  • At least two years of teaching experience (coaching, mentoring ore tutoring experience applies)
  • Eligibility to work in the US or Canada
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to English or an ESL teaching certificate (TEFL, TESOL, CELTA)
  • At least two sets of schedules recurring over a four week period
  • Laptop and stable internet connection (at least 25 Mb/s )

Types of English Services Offered at Hallo

The requirements vary depending on the position you take at Hallo. Here are the different ways to earn from Hallo:

1. Live Classes

Live classes allow teachers to build a following and find students. Students pay $7 per month to sign up and watch live classes from their favorite teachers.

Students can participate in live classes and practice their speaking.

Teachers are recommended to bring up to four subscribers on camera as much as possible so they can have a conversation during the live classes. The teacher needs to have at least two live classes per week.

2. Private Lessons

Teachers can choose their own schedule for private lessons and charge their own rates (minimum $5.07 for a 25-minute lesson). Teachers can continue to increase their prices as they get more popular.

Teachers can also find students and make money through Instamatch. On Instamatch, teachers earn 0.17 USD per minute ($10.20 per hour).

3. Course Teachers

Course teachers must be certified and eligible to work in the US or Canada to be approved.

The Hallo Courses enable teachers to make up to $35 per hour with a group of up to four students in a class. Teachers are also required to create feedback and correct homework, which is also paid for.

Course teachers also need to find students who are willing to sign up to their group classes.

Pay

Currently, their highest-earning teachers are making:

  • $15-$20/class through the live classes
  • up to $28/hr through scheduled private lessons
  • $10.20 /hr through Instamatch
  • up to $35/hr though Hallo courses teaching group classes
  • $7 per subscriber per month

Hallo states on their website that if you want to make a quick buck, Hallo might not be your best bet unless you are doing the Instamatch. If you grow a following, your income will increase over time. This is not possible on other ESL platforms.

Teachers need a Paypal or Stripe account to accept their earnings.

Classes and Scheduling

  • Create your own schedule that is totally flexible for you
  • Hallo recommends teaching for 60-90 minutes at least three times per week to gain popularity
  • Teach the Hallo curriculum or mix and match with your own curriculum for private lessons
  • Teachers need to use the official curriculum for courses
  • Schedule at least two live classes per week to be able to accept subscribers

Teachers need to put the work in to gain popularity at Hallo. They can open their schedule whenever they wish and teach.

Most of the students are between 18-30 who want to study abroad or get a better job. The audience is mainly from Indonesia, India, Turkey, Egypt, and Brazil.
