You are one of the many teachers to hear about YiYiEnglish. But is it a legit company, or is it a scam? Find out what teachers say in our YiYiEnglish review.
What is YiYiEnglish?
YiYiEnglish is an e-learning platform based in New York. They connect native and non-native teachers to children between the ages of 5 to 15 from China. This enables teachers to make an income working from home.
Even though their students are based in China, they always have US support staff available to help teachers whenever they need to focus on the important stuff, like lesson planning and teaching.
Is YiYiEnglish legit?
While it is normal for companies to receive some negative reviews, reviews relating to missed or inaccurate payslips are serious accusations that reduce a company’s legitimacy.
In recent reviews, teachers from YiYiEnglish have complained about being paid less than the number of hours worked. Teachers have also said that the company lack organization and respect for their teachers. These reviews were concerning, to say the least.
While there are some good and bad reviews, please proceed with caution should you decide to work here.
- Friendly, energetic, and dependable teachers
- Native or non-native English speaker with a neutral accent
- TEFL/TESOL certification preferred

The ESL company is not strict in its requirements. In fact, on their website, they encourage people who are new to teaching to apply! Teachers don’t need a degree nor a TEFL certificate.
They evaluate their teachers based on their communication skills, TPR, energy level, maturity, technology skills, and ability to think on their feet.
How much does YiYiEnglish Pay?
- The company pays $15 to $20 per hour, along with bonuses and raises.
As an independent contractor, you are paid for the number of hours worked. YiYi English pays between $15 to $20 per hour. Payments are made via Paypal.

Yiyi is a scam!
The support team is unreliable and rude!
They will not pay you!
They didn’t reply to any of my messages!
Worst company I’ve ever worked for!
I read this and many reviews about yiyi during the application process. I passed the demo, and arranged a second meeting to confirm some information before starting classes. This was when they decided to inform me of their new payment structure.
Monthly billable Rate per hour
hours in USD $
I said no thank you, and thank you for wasting my time. I’ve heard of some companies paying pennies, but this is my first encounter with one. And to say how big of a company they are, it’s downright shameful.
0-20 you mean 7 dollar each hour ?
Anyway it doesn’t matter anymore if it is a scam or not. New regulations in China have banned all online teaching from outside the country
